Francesco Totti is being considered for an emotional return to Roma, seven years after he left his role as club director.

Former head coach and current Giallorossi consultant Claudio Ranieri said that discussions are ongoing between Totti and the Friedkins.

The Friedkin family is considering it, and I hope that Francesco can be truly useful to Roma, because he is a part of Roma,” Ranieri explained in an interview with Sky Sport.

Francesco Totti Poised For Roma Role

In May of last year, Francesco Totti’s potential Roma return was given the thumbs up by the Giallorossi legend himself. He insisted he would definitely consider an “important role” at the Stadio Olimpico.

Nine months later, his wish is coming close to fruition. Totti did spend two years as a club director under the James Pallotta era between 2017 and 2019.

However, that relationship soon soured and the 49-year-old made the decision to quit. Owing mainly to the fact he wasn’t involved enough in the club’s decision making.

Totti did say he would always like to return under new ownership. And according to Claudio Ranieri, the wheels are now very much in motion. Much to the delight of supporters.

If the opportunity were to arise to have an important role at Roma, I would certainly evaluate it. Roma has always been my home, and if one day I were to be called, we’d sit down and evaluate everything,” Totti told TRT Sport and Corriere dello Sport.

I was an important player for Roma. If I was offered an important role, I’d definitely consider it.”

Francesco Totti’s Roma Stats, Goals And Awards

One-club legend Francesco Totti is widely considered as one of Serie A’s greatest ever players. During his prime, he was simply unplayable and garnered an army of admirers during his hugely successful 24-year stint at Roma.

In fact, he is the undisputed ‘King of Rome.’ Nobody in the Giallorossi’s entire history came close to emulating what Totti achieved at the Stadio Olimpico.

Which is why it comes as little surprise that Claudio Ranieri called for Totti’s reunion with the club he calls ‘home‘ just over 13 months ago. A decision which will prove hugely popular owing to his vast history in the capital.

Totti leads the way when it comes to goals (307), most appearances (786), youngest captain (22), most Serie A goals for one club (250) and most goals in a single Serie A season for Roma (26).

He has a number of league-wide records, too. He has scored the most penalties (71) and is the oldest scorer in Italy’s elite (39 years, 23 days). Totti is also the second-highest scorer in Serie A of all-time.

In terms of trophies, Totti skippered the Giallorossi to the Scudetto in 2001. He also won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana (both twice). For Italy, he starred as the Azzurri won the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Unsurprisingly, Totti has an abundance of personal accolades to his name. They include the likes of being named Serie A Player of the Year (2) and the Serie A Italian Footballer of the Year (5).

Totti’s most treasured accolade is perhaps that of entering Roma’s Hall of Fame in 2017. And if he does return, Totti will surely help the current crop try to emulate some of his achievements in Rome.
