The future of Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United has been put in jeopardy, as the club have all but confirmed the arrival of Benjamin Sesko. The Danish striker is not prepared to play a marginal role next season, and a return to Serie A looks to be his likeliest destination.
Is Rasmus Hojlund Leaving Manchester United?
Despite insisting that he intends to fight for his place at Manchester United in recent weeks, Rasmum Hojlund’s role at the club has become increasingly marginalized, as the window has wore on.
The signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and now Benjamin Sesko have all threatened the minutes available to him, and United appear ready to cut their losses.
Hojlund penned a five year-contract in 2023 after Man United paid an initial $72 million fee, with an extra $8m in performances related add-ons.
With Ruben Amorim communicating to the United hierarchy that the Dane is now surplus to requirements, the board are eager to find a swift resolution to his future — even if that means sending him out on an initial loan.
AC Milan and Manchester United have almost reached an agreement for Rasmus Hojlund for a €5m loan plus the option to buy for €40m. The deal could reach up to €50m with bonuses. [@TuttoMercatoWeb] #MUFC pic.twitter.com/WiuQdc8IA4

Hojlund to AC Milan Edges Closer
Rasmum Hojlund transfer news has been dominated by a potential return to Italy this summer, with offshore sportsbooks putting Juventus in pole position to land the 22-year-old.
Juve are among a host of teams in the top-half in desperate need of a new striker, but it appears to be AC Milan who are accelerating ahead in the race for Hojlund.
Despite Milan expressing interest in Porto’s Samu Aghehowa earlier this month, Hojlund’s recent demotion has presented a market opportunity too tantalizing to pass up.
Milan have reportedly offered to pay a $5m loan fee, and cover Hojlund’s $100,000 per-week wages for the 2025-26 campaign.
The loan deal also includes an option to buy next summer, for a fee of $46m.
It is far from the ideal proposal for United, who are hoping to immediately recoup some of the $200m-plus they have spent already this window.
For context, United are yet to generate any money from players sales this summer.
The club’s INEOS-backed owners have done little to hide the fact they are trimming the spending at United, and although it has been a summer of big-money arrivals, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be far from happy with the arrangement of Hojlund’s deal.
United’s notably high net spend this summer comes as they prepare to accelerate with plans for a new $2.59 billion stadium.
