Maurizio Sarri has been hit with a huge blow as Taty Castellanos will be sidelined for over a month after picking up an injury in training.
Taty Castellanos Injury News
The Laziali star suffered a knock in training after failing to earn a place in Argentina’s squad for the recent international break and initial tests have revealed that the striker could be out for almost two-months.
Castellanos enjoyed his best season in Italy last year, contributing to 22 goals in 40 appearances (14G + 8A) and became Lazio’s leading talisman under Maurizio Sarri.
This season has followed a similar trend so far, as the 27-year-old has contributed to five goals in six Serie A appearances (3G + 2A) – however these contributions only came in two matches.
Despite Castellanos’ best efforts Lazio have struggled to find a consistent level of performance this season, as Sarri’s side have picked up just seven points in six Serie A matches.
Italy’s top division has caught some criticism this season for a lack of entertainment, as the stats show a lack of goals in Serie A, but Lazio’s matches have not followed this trend.
The Laziali’s most recent encounter ended in a six-goal thriller, as Lazio were held to a 3-3 stalemate by Torino after Danilo Cataldi scored an equaliser for Sarri’s side in the 13th minute of injury time.
Castellanos’ injury could have come at a worse time for Lazio as they currently sit 13th in Serie A and the Argentinian is set to miss a host of important matches.
What Matches Will Taty Castellanos Miss?
The Lazio star underwent tests on October 13th and the results were not what Lazio were expecting, as Castellanos suffered a Grade II injury to his right thigh.
This means the striker will be out for 1-2 months, which will see him be sidelined for a list of important league matches as Lazio enter a tricky part of the season.
Maurizio Sarri’s side will face Atalanta, Juventus, Pisa and Cagliari and Inter Milan in their next five league matches and Castellanos is set to miss each of these encounters.
Following Lazio’s clash against Inter Milan on November 9th there will be an international break and this is set to be at the same time as Castellanos’ return.
This means the 27-year-old will be back in the matchday squad for Lazio’s home match against Lecce on November 23rd and should be in the starting lineup for the trip to Milan on November 29th.
AC Milan, who have recently been linked with MLS star Diego Luna, have enjoyed a strong start to the season and Castellanos return will be much-needed.
Maurizio Sarri has a decision to make over who will fill Castellanos’ boots for the time being, however, Lazio are not blessed with a host of striker options.
Boulaye Dia is expected to lead the line in Castellanos’ absence, however, Gustav Isaksen is another possibility after recently returning from injury.
