The decisive spell began in the 71st minute. Santiago Giménez laid on the goal for Gabri Veiga, who restored Porto’s lead. He was replaced after 78 minutes, finishing with four shots and three key passes, and was rated 8.89, the highest on the pitch.

Napoli’s night got worse in the 88th minute when Rafa Marín was shown a straight red card. Two minutes later Aghehowa converted a penalty to complete the scoring, having played 34 minutes.

The numbers favoured the hosts throughout. Porto had 19 shots to Napoli’s 11, with 8 on target against 6, and built expected goals of 3.17 compared with 1.44. Possession was close, at 52% to 48%. Francesco Farioli’s side also committed only 8 fouls to Napoli’s 11.

Porto’s fourth straight win, Napoli’s second defeat in a row

This was a fourth consecutive victory for Porto in all competitions. Before beating Napoli, they had beaten Estoril 4-0, Academico Viseu 1-0 and GIL Vicente 1-0, a run that followed back-to-back defeats to PSV Eindhoven and Real Betis.

Napoli are heading the other way. This loss came straight after a 2-0 defeat to Juventus, and their last six games read two wins, one draw and three defeats. McTominay, rated 7.56, was their best performer.

Both sides are back in league action on Sunday 8 November. Porto travel to Vitória SC in the Primeira Liga, while Napoli host Lazio in Serie A.
