Lazio made it five straight wins in all competitions on Sunday 1 November, overturning an early deficit against Cagliari on the tenth matchday of Serie A. Gattuso’s side are now top of the table, unbeaten after 10 games. Cagliari finished with ten men after Obert was sent off in the first minute of stoppage time.
Isaksen cancels out Nzola’s opener
The visitors struck first. Nzola finished a move set up by Fadera in the 20th minute, giving Pisacane’s side a lead they held for 16 minutes.
Isaksen levelled in the 36th minute, converting a pass from Noslin. The Danish winger had three shots in all and earned a match rating of 7.85, the highest on the pitch. Nzola, rated 7.49, was replaced at the break after 45 minutes.
The scores were level at half-time, and the second half became a test of patience for the hosts. Lazio held 74% of the ball and completed 661 of their 749 passes, against 195 of 265 for Cagliari. Chances were far more even than that suggests. Lazio’s 11 shots produced 1.03 expected goals, while Cagliari’s 9 attempts were worth 1.1.
Pinamonti settles it off the bench
Cagliari committed 18 fouls to Lazio’s 7, and the bookings piled up. Referee Andrea Colombo cautioned Fazzini in the 59th minute, Rodríguez in the 66th and Obert in the 76th.
The breakthrough came seven minutes before the end. Pedraza, another substitute, provided the assist and Pinamonti scored with his only shot of the afternoon in 35 minutes on the pitch. He was booked a minute later. Dele-Bashiru, also introduced from the bench, was rated 7.2 for the same spell.
Obert’s red card arrived too late to change anything, but it leaves Cagliari a defender short for their next fixture.
Lazio three clear of Inter as Cagliari’s slide reaches four
Lazio have 28 points from a 9-1-0 record and a goal difference of 16. Inter are second on 25, with Roma on 24 and Como on 23. The only blemish on Lazio’s recent record was a 3-3 draw with Juve Stabia, followed by wins over Monza, Juventus, Parma, Sassuolo and now Cagliari.
This fixture has become a familiar one for the Biancocelesti. They are unbeaten in six meetings with Cagliari, winning five, and the score repeated the 2-1 home win of 4 November 2024. The last encounter, in February, finished goalless in Sardinia.
Cagliari are 12th on 13 points. Their four straight defeats began against Monza and continued against Bologna and Roma before this trip. Their last win was 1-0 against Udinese.
Pisacane’s side host sixth-placed Frosinone on Saturday 7 November. Lazio travel to Napoli a day later, on Sunday 8 November.
