Ruben Amorim’s side had 70% of the ball, but the visitors created far more and held on comfortably after finishing with ten men.

Ferencváros beat Milan 2-0 at San Siro on Thursday 5 November, on the fourth matchday of the Europa League league stage. Lenny Joseph scored both goals early in the second half, and Kristoffer Zachariassen set up each of them.
The first half ended goalless. Milan had a bad time with the referee’s notebook, as Urs Schnyder booked Alphadjo Cissè for a foul in the 32nd minute and then Koni De Winter in the 51st.
Joseph and Zachariassen combine twice
A minute after the De Winter booking, the visitors went ahead. Zachariassen supplied Joseph in the 52nd minute, and the same pair combined again in the 66th to double the lead.
Joseph was rated 8.99, the highest on the pitch, after taking 7 shots in his 67 minutes. Zachariassen, rated 8.29, added 3 key passes to his two assists.
Ferencváros were reduced to ten men in the 77th minute. Bamidele Isa Yusuf was shown a red card for violent conduct, with the upgrade confirmed after a VAR review. Ádám Nagy was also booked for a foul in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Milan still could not find a way back. Their best performer was Torriani, rated 7.24, who made 6 saves to keep the scoreline down, while Hutchinson had 5 shots and was rated 7.13.
Milan’s 70% possession counts for little
The numbers show how one-sided the territory was, and how little it produced. Milan completed 591 passes to 205 and attempted 672 in total against 288. Yet they put just 2 of their 15 shots on target, with 7 of those efforts coming from outside the box.
Ferencváros needed only 12 shots, all from inside the area, and 8 of them hit the target. Their expected goals figure of 3.13 dwarfed Milan’s 1.27.
For Amorim, it was a third defeat in the last six matches across all competitions. Milan’s form has swung from game to game, with wins over Inter, Udinese and Atalanta broken up by losses to Bologna, Bournemouth and now Ferencváros. The 3-1 victory over Inter came in the game immediately before this one.
Five straight wins for Ferencváros
The visitors are in far steadier form. This was a fifth consecutive win in all competitions, following victories over Paks, Bicskei, MTK Budapest and Torreense. The last time they failed to win was a 1-1 draw with Kisvarda FC.
Both sides are back in action on Sunday 8 November. Milan travel to Genoa in Serie A, while Ferencváros visit Vasas in NB I.
