Daniele Rugani remains a major doubt for Fiorentina against Torino as the defender continues individual recovery work at Viola Park.
Daniele Rugani Fiorentina availability in serious doubt
Fiorentina are a bit worried about Daniele Rugani’s condition.
As time goes on, it’s looking less and less likely that the defender, born in 1994, will be able to play in tomorrow’s game against Torino.
For now, the player is still training on his own at the sports center.
He’s following a custom program to recover from his injury as quickly as possible.
The injury has kept him off the field for about a month and a half.
It’s still possible the coach might decide to bench him, let him experience the atmosphere at the Franchi stadium up close, but after yesterday’s separate training session, the signs aren’t great.
Final test planned but risks remain high
Today, Paolo Vanoli will try to see if there’s any chance of him being called up until the last minute.
The test at Viola Park will be key in deciding if Rugani will be available for the match against Torino.
The medical and technical staff are doing everything they can to get him back tomorrow, but it’s going to be a challenge.
The main goal is still to avoid any risks that aren’t necessary. If Fiorentina rush his return, they could mess with his recovery and make his absence even longer.
Injury timeline and Fiorentina move details
The former Juventus center back has also picked his new jersey number, which will be 3. Daniele Rugani joined Fiorentina from Juventus on a €500,000 loan with an option to buy that can become mandatory upon reaching certain conditions for €2 million.
Rugani’s been dealing with this muscle problem since December 20. During the match against Roma, when he was playing for Juventus, he had to leave the field early because of pain in his calf.
Further tests showed a moderate injury to the medial twin muscle in his right leg. After that, he had to go through a long recovery process that caused him to miss nine matches between the league and cups.
His return is coming up, but we just need to be patient a little longer. However, Fabio Paratici praised his player in his first press conference as Fiorentina Head of Football Operations.
“He’s a very serious guy with a lot of depth. He’s very underrated. When we were at Juventus, we knew his value. He doesn’t have any tattoos, he doesn’t wear earrings, he doesn’t swear, he’s a very serious guy who has been very good and can achieve great things.”
