The Italy squad has been confirmed for November’s internationals and fans have blasted the omission of Federico Chiesa.
At club level this season, Chiesa has flourished although not a regular starter at Liverpool. The 28-year-old has actually made more league appearances this season than he did in the entire 2024-25 campaign.
Furthermore, Chiesa has also equaled his goal tally that he registered with the Reds last term. He has three assists to his name and such positive form has left supporters baffled as to why he won’t feature for the Azzurri this month.
Fans Blast Gennaro Gattuso For Omitting Federico Chiesa From His Italy Squad
In October, there was no room in the Italy squad for Federico Chiesa. History has repeated itself once again which has left fans upset with the Italy head coach.
One user wrote on X: “Rino is hopeless. Where are Chiesa, Kayode, Tresoldi? Di Lorenzo has been dreadful for Napoli and Italy this year. Hopeless.”
Another tweeted on the platform: “No Chiesa, Tresoldi but 4 Goalkeepers, Raspadori. Gatusso give me a break.”
“Why no Chiesa he’s played more than raspadori . Tresoldi also had to be called up,” another stated.
However, one supporter noted that he believes Chiesa doesn’t want to be in the set up: “It’s like you people only pay attention once a month. Chiesa is not here because he does not want to be here. He either doesn’t think he’s fit or he simply doesn’t [want] to be here. Gattuso should be done with him.”
Italy Squad For November’s World Cup Qualifiers
On November 7, Gennaro Gattuso named a 27-man Italy squad for the crucial clashes against Moldova and Norway. As expected, all the usual culprits have been called up.
They include Azzurri captain Gianluigi Donnarumma, Napoli skipper Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali alongside Serie A stars Riccardo Orsolini, Moise Kean and Francesco Pio Esposito.
Federico Chiesa’s omission isn’t the only notable absence. Udinese forward Nicolo Zaniolo has also missed out and many were keen to see Brentford fullback Michael Kayode given a chance.
Perhaps more understandably, Destiny Udogie has not been included, too. The Tottenham defender was reportedly threatened at gun point by a soccer agent in September.

Elia Caprile Earns Maiden Italy Call-Up
With Roberto Mancini the favorite to be next Italy manager should Gennaro Gattuso fail to secure World Cup qualification, the current Azzurri boss has only called-up one newbie.
Gattuso clearly wants to stick with a tried and tested roster but there is room for Elia Caprile. The Cagliari goalkeeper is unlikely to feature but just being around the squad will give him a taster of what international soccer is like at the highest level.
Caprile has earned rave reviews in recent seasons. The likes of AC Milan and Juventus are monitoring his progress and he may feature more prominently should a move to one of Serie A’s elite materialize in the future.
Will Federico Chiesa Earn A Recall For March’s International Fixtures?
Only time will tell if Federico Chiesa will return to the team next year. As it stands, Italy is set for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs owing to Norway’s dominance in qualifying.
Therefore, Chiesa’s chances can be improved if he continues to shine in his limited game time at Anfield. It’s unlikely that he’ll break into Arne Slot’s starting XI so producing off the bench remains his best chance.
Chiesa – who starred in the Euro 2020 success – has also had his commitment questioned. Many around the Italy camp believe that the player himself doesn’t see himself as the right fit under Gennaro Gattuso.
Whilst Gattuso is at the helm, the 28-year-old is apparently not interested in being in the squad. Chiesa hasn’t featured since the underwhelming Euro 2024 campaign but if required for the playoffs, he’ll surely reconsider.
