Half-time 1–1 · Venue: Stadio Renato Dall’Ara · Referee: Daniele Doveri

Marcus Thuram, Carlos Augusto and Ange-Yoan Bonny scored for Inter at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Saturday 17 October. Their goals overturned Tommaso Pobega’s 10th-minute opener for Bologna in the seventh round of Serie A.

Bologna struck first. Juan Miranda supplied the assist and Pobega finished for a lead that lasted until a minute before the break. Pobega ended with a rating of 7.66, the best on the home side, with three shots and three key passes in his 76 minutes.

Thuram equalises before half-time as Inter take control

Inter levelled in the 44th minute. Nicolò Barella set up Thuram, whose goal was his third of the league season, one behind teammate Lautaro Martínez in the scoring chart. Thuram was later booked in the 61st minute.

The second half belonged to the visitors. In the 69th minute Piotr Zieliński found Carlos Augusto, who put Inter ahead. Bologna’s frustration showed within three minutes, with Miranda and Federico Bernardeschi both cautioned for dissent at 71 and 72 minutes.

Carlos Augusto then turned provider. His pass set up Bonny in the 83rd minute to settle it. Augusto was booked in between, in the 79th minute, one of seven yellow cards shown by Daniele Doveri.

Zieliński and Barella lead a dominant Inter display

Zieliński and Barella were each rated 7.7, the highest on the pitch, with an assist and two key passes apiece. The numbers told the same story across the team. Inter had 65% of the ball and completed 624 of their 684 passes, against 301 of 366 for Bologna.

Chivu’s side also produced 17 shots to 11, with 8 on target to 4, and generated expected goals of 3.41 compared with 0.98 for the hosts. Bologna’s goalkeeping kept the margin down, with five saves.

The win followed a 4-3 Champions League defeat to Club Brugge. Inter’s previous Serie A visit to the Dall’Ara, in May, had finished 3-3.

Inter top on 19 points as Bologna sit 14th

Inter are unbeaten in the league with six wins and a draw from seven games, giving them 19 points. Lazio are second on 16 with a match in hand, and AS Roma third on 14.

Bologna are 14th with 5 points. Palladino’s side have won once in their last six matches in all competitions, beating Lecce 2-1, and have lost four of seven league games.

Inter return to European action first, hosting Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday 21 October. Bologna travel to fifth-placed Cagliari on Saturday 24 October.
