After weeks of criticism, Lautaro Martinez has issued a response to his Inter Milan future.
Lautaro Martinez provided an insight into his future with Inter Milan after responding to recent criticism with a brace against Pisa.
Lautaro Martinez Cements Inter Milan Future
The Argentinian international has endured a difficult spell with Inter Milan in recent weeks, failing to register a single goal involvement in the Nerazzurri’s defeats by AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.
Martinez was also substituted in both of these matches as Inter suffered consecutive defeats, but the 28-year-old silenced any criticism during Inter’s latest Serie A outing.
Cristian Chivu’s side secured 2-0 victory over Pisa on November 31st, as Martinez picked up the MOTM award after scoring both goals and taking his overall tally to eight goal contributions in 13 league appearances (6G + 2A).
This victory kept the Nerazzurri within a point of table-toppers AC Milan, as the Rossoneri earned a narrow victory on MD13 – despite Massimiliano Allegri’s dismissal against Lazio.
Maintaining their place in third was key for Inter and Martinez’s brace served as a reminder that the Argentine is still one of the best strikers in Europe.
Following the victory over Pisa, the 28-year-old was asked about the criticism and his future with Inter, which saw Martinez push for multiple years with the Nerazzurri.
Martinez said: “I work for myself, for Inter, and for my family, so I let those outside that group talk all they want. I am happy for the team, for my family, and for myself. I work for Inter and that’s all.
“I hope (to stay) for a long time, I have many years on my contract and people love me here. The team comes first of all, Inter must win, we’ve been challenging for every trophy for many years now. People outside can talk, but we must focus on lifting Inter as high as possible.”
However, Martinez’s brace will not stop Inter’s ambitions in the January window, as Cristian Chivu is still looking to bring in some reinforcements for the remainder of this season.
Inter Milan Still Considering January Additions
The Nerazzurri brought in Ange-Yoan Bonny, Luis Henrique, Andy Diouf, Petar Sucic, Aleksandar Stankovic and Manuel Akanji during the summer transfer window – but Chivu is hoping to add more firepower in 2026.
Signing a striker to compete with Martinez is high on the Inter manager’s list of priorities, as Marucs Thuram and Ange-Yoan Bonny have struggled with injuries this season.
Inter had been linked with Juventus striker Jonathan David after his recent struggles in Turin, but the Canadian has attracted LaLiga interest and the Nerazzurri may look elsewhere.
Another candidate for the Serie A side is Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee, as the Dutchman has failed to meet expectations in England.
The Red Devils star was on target during his latest Premier League outing, scoring the equalizer in United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace – getting the better of another Inter Milan target in Marc Guehi.
Cristian Chivu will need to be shrewd with his choices in January as Inter are starting to allocate funds over the creation of a new home ground and this could play a huge role in any transfer business.
