As much as Giuntoli has been back Motta in the press after recent losses like this past weekend against Fiorentina and the club not wanting to sack a manager in-season, there is also the realization that continued dropped points is only going to make their chase for a top four finish even that much more difficult — especially when it comes against a Genoa side that has only three wins since late January.

As La Gazzetta put it: “Trust is therefore limited in time, with the company having become more present but also more pressing and not wanting to be exposed to further embarrassments.”

Genoa was the club in which Motta made his Serie A debut with as a player and where his first managerial job took place, so his time at Juventus potentially coming to an end against Il Grifone would certainly add a little more salt in the wound.

With their blowout losses to Atalanta and Fiorentina in consecutive weekends, Juventus have fallen out of fourth place and seen Motta’s former club, Bologna, overtake them in the standings. When they take the field against Genoa on March 29, they will still have as many draws (13) as wins on the season, and while they are still tied for the third-best defense in Serie A, the last two weeks (as well as the losses before that) have shown that all is not right with this Juventus team defensively.

Motta said after Sunday’s loss in Florence: “Leaving? It would be too easy, and I never choose the easy way out. Our goal remains Champions League qualification, we’ll find a way to get back to winning ways from our next game.”

Motta’s contract that he signed last summer runs through 2027.

Source link

In the aftermath of Juventus’ heavy defeat to Fiorentina this past Sunday, the Bianconeri front office have still publicly backed manager Thiago Motta as the man to lead the club forward.
