In a short announcement released earlier today, Juventus announced that Damien Comolli\u2019s role with the club has been greatly expanded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Board of Directors of Juventus Football Club S.p.A. (\u201cJuventus\u201d or the \u201cCompany\u201d), which met today under the chairmanship of Gianluca Ferrero, resolved, inter alia, on the appointment of corporate officers and the granting of powers to the Directors, as well as on the establishment of the Board committees and the appointment of their respective members.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
\n\nThe Board of Directors appointed Damien Comolli as Chief Executive Officer, with the simultaneous termination of his previous position as General Manager, granting him executive powers substantially in continuity with the previous structure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
\nThe club has been in a transition phase for what feels like years now since the departure of Andrea Agnelli at the top of the club, this feels like a move to solidify the power structure and hopefully right the ship going forward, especially with the recent appointment of Luciano Spalletti as manager as well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nComolli\u2019s background is as a French football executive whose career started in youth coaching and scouting, and has evolved into high-level executive positions. He has also consulted for other clubs on recruitment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nHe is known for his data-driven, \u2018Moneyball\u2019 approach to player recruitment and has previously held executive roles at clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Fenerbah\u00e7e, as well as serving as president of Toulouse. This will be a refreshing change for Juve who have been built in the past of offering exorbitant wages for free agents which has then made them untradable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nComolli has been in an interim role managing transfer operations after the departure of Cristiano Giuntoli. He has also previously been in scouting at Arsenal and serving as a sporting director for Saint-\u00c9tienne, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Fenerbah\u00e7e.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
