That is an interesting note because, well, it was just a couple of weeks ago in which González’s obligation to buy following his loan move from Fiorentina kicked in. With it, another €25 million went over to Rocco Commisso’s purple-clad bank account after the initial €8 million loan fee.

Under normal circumstances, wouldn’t come with rumors of a potential departure.

But, as we know, Juventus aren’t exactly operating under anything close to normal circumstances considering the season (or two) (or three or four) that they’ve just had.

Damien Comolli and Co. have a Cristiano Giuntolli-themed mess to try and clean up on the current roster. And while some players that Giuntoli signed last summer have turned out to be very good acquisitions — hello to you, Khephren Thuram, Michele Di Gregorio and Pierre Kalulu — but others have been, well, big-money flops. González is certainly more of the latter group than the former, and that is why we’re suddenly hearing about him potentially leaving Juve this summer rather than being a big part of Igor Tudor’s attacking plans.

While there have been links over the last week or so about some interest from Saudi Arabia, the newest rumors involve something a little closer to Turin. That is because both of the teams in Serie A that wear black and blue stripes (gross) could well be doing some business together, and in turn opening a door for Juventus to potentially offload González this summer.

The easiest domino to fall is, according to reports over the last 48 hours, Inter Milan trying to buy Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with the two clubs in talks over a deal for the talented 27-year-old forward. That could, in turn, mean that Atalanta would look to González to fill the void left by Lookman, with reports saying there is a genuine interest to bring the Argentine attacker to Bergamo.

Where things get a little interest is if Inter and Atalanta aren’t able to agree to a deal for Lookman, with last season’s Champions League finalists bidding €40 million, much lower than La Dea’s reported €50 million asking price. According to SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedulla, González is very much backup option No. 1, but Inter’s fully focused on trying to get a deal done for Lookman in the relatively near future (and trying like hell to avoid a drawn out, Teun Koopmeiners-like saga with Atalanta in the process.)

Considering that Juventus have invested a lot of money González — although maybe not as much as other summer of 2024 signings like Koopmeiners and Douglas Luiz — it’s starting to look like an admission that he just doesn’t fit into what Tudor wants to do with this team. Considering he performed better — although not by much — under Tudor compared to his long-winded struggles under Thiago Motta, there might have been some sort of hope he could turn things around if he was to get a new lease on life following his early poor form at Juventus.

But even that appears to be something that may not come to pass. Or at least may well end up happening at a new club no matter if it’s somewhere else in Serie A or abroad.

At the very least, it appears that Juventus may have some options when it comes to interest in González — which is more than we can say about other attacking players Juventus have bought from Fiorentina in recent years.

Source link

From the outside looking in, things aren’t exactly looking all bright and sunsehine-y when it comes to Nico González having a future at Juventus.
