Gonzalo Garcia’s second-half winner inspired La Liga giants to a narrow 1-0 win at Hard Rock Stadium.

After Inter’s shocking loss to Fluminense last night, another Serie A club slumped at the first knockout hurdle. However, Juventus faced a far more challenging task. Igor Tudor’s side progressed into the Round of 16 as Group G runners-up after a dismal 5-2 defeat to Manchester City.

Though they avoided another catastrophe in Florida, they failed to achieve the ultimate goal and reach the quarter-finals. Truth be told, Real Madrid outclassed the Bianconeri. Indeed, Xabi Alonso’s men racked up 21 shots, including 11 on target, generating a telling 1.57 xG.

Juventus enjoyed a better start to the game. Yet, Randal Kolo Muani and Kenan Yildiz didn’t have enough luck to open the scoring. Los Blancos bounced back after a slow opening, with Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham forcing two outstanding saves from Michele Di Gregorio.

Real Madrid opened the scoring early in the second half through Garica’s towering header and managed to hold onto their narrow lead until the final whistle. Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.

Juventus (3-4-3)

Michele Di Gregorio – 9/10

His standout performance between the sticks was the only reason Juventus lost via a single-goal margin. Probably the best showing from a goalkeeper at the tournament!

Pierre Kalulu – 6/10

Though he improved after a disastrous display against Man City, the French defender often struggled to cope with Vinicius Junior’s devastating pace.

Daniele Rugani – 6/10

Handed an unexpected chance to start, Rugani offered a decent performance, though Garcia slipped his mark to score the winning goal.

Lloyd Kelly – 5/10

Valverde’s cuts inside caused the ex-Bournemouth center-back’s headache as he couldn’t deal with the Uruguayan’s constant movements around and inside the box.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6/10

With Juventus spending most of the game chasing the ball, the Italian wingback didn’t have many opportunities to showcase his attacking brilliance. Fared well defensively.

Khephren Thuram – 5/10

The Frenchman always seemed one step behind his rivals, resulting in Real Madrid’s territorial dominance. Occasional flashes of quality weren’t enough to mask his mediocre showing.

Manuel Locatelli – 4/10

Like his midfield colleague, Locatelli wasn’t up to the tempo, often losing out in duels and failing to dictate the rhythm.

Alberto Costa – 4/10

It was an awful tournament for the Portuguese youngster, and it ended in the same vein. He offered no threat going forward and stuttered at the back against Vinicius and Fran Garcia.

Francisco Conceicao – 5/10

Virtually invisible throughout the opening hour of play, the diminutive winger was well below his high standard, never putting Real Madrid’s backline to the test.

Kenan Yildiz – 6/10

Despite being Juventus’ liveliest performer this evening, the Turkish starlet couldn’t make the difference. It’s a shame his thunderbolt didn’t hit the target early on.

Randal Kolo Muani – 5/10

Who knows how the game would’ve gone had he had more composure in that fateful eighth minute? Vanished from the game afterward.

Substitutes

Nicolas Gonzalez – 6/10

Filip Kostic – 4/10

Teun Koopmeiners – 6/10

Federico Gatti – N/A

Weston McKennie – N/A

Follow us on Google News for more updates on Serie A and Italian football

Source link

Serie A no longer has a representative at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as Juventus failed to overcome Real Madrid.
