Antonio Conte will stay at Napoli, while Milan have snapped up Massimiliano Allegri. Several other teams are either deciding the fate of their manager or are in talks to hire a new one.

Napoli

As for the Partenopei, the drama was unnecessary, and the boss shouldn’t have needed much convincing. Aside from his bond with Juventus, little else justified jumping ship. The romanticism is only a very minor factor. He didn’t need to witness a parade to learn about the fans’ passion. Besides Inter, which are obviously a no-go for him, he’s in the team best positioned to win and that also lets him have the most power. Perhaps he’ll get a raise, too.

Milan

The new Rossoneri course needed to get off on the right foot and did. Allegri isn’t a panacea, but he has an untouchable resume and has successfully navigated challenging situations. Reviving and lifting a team is a new challenge for him, but the squad doesn’t need a lot to fare better than last season.

Juventus

Juventus risk drawing the short straw, although Igor Tudor is a fine stopgap. New reports from Sky suggest that Cristiano Giuntoli will be axed and not coexist with Damien Comolli, which is somewhat understandable, but the timing is way off. The choice, at least informally, should have come much sooner. Instead, they’ll waste months of groundwork on the transfer market, in addition to being burned by Conte, who probably took a peek at the turmoil and ran in the opposite direction. All bets are off about what they’ll do next, but the delay and the Club World Cup help their current gaffer. It’s easy to imagine they’ll eventually appoint a foreign manager with a connection to their new directors.

Roma

For a little while, the Bianconeri will have a shot at Gian Piero Gasperini, as Roma didn’t seal the deal despite a long and positive meeting with him, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs. They’ll have FFP-related limitations in the next couple of windows. He seems to have decided to leave Atalanta due to a lack of motivation, but the peril of a change of heart because he realizes that he wouldn’t have it better in other clubs will be there until his exit is official. He and Claudio Ranieri couldn’t be any more different in terms of character and likability. Plus, there are fair concerns about the fan base and the officials putting up with his quirks and everything else he easily got away with in Bergamo.

Inter and Como

It’d be stunning if Simone Inzaghi left Inter, especially without a readymade fallback as their brass is always uber-prepared, but the question mark will linger for a couple more days. It’d be more justifiable if they won the Champions League and a poor look if they didn’t. Como have been very tenacious, and for good reasons, to keep Cesc Fabregas, and the Nerazzurri are the only threat left, Alfredo Pedullà relays.

Fiorentina

The uncertainty reigns supreme going through the Serie A standings. Raffaele Palladino resigned a couple of days ago, but Fiorentina haven’t announced it yet because they are trying to convince him to backtrack, La Repubblica reports. He did it because he was criticized by fans and due to disagreements with part of the front office. Their season was okay, but nothing to write home about. He lost a bit of luster of being a prodigy this campaign, but he’s super young. Plus, he appears to be great at connecting with the players. As a Gasperini disciple, he surely has a lot of fans around the League.

Lazio

Lazio have de facto moved on from Marco Baroni and pursuing coaches, starting with Maurizio Sarri, ANSA informs. It wasn’t an ambitious hire to begin with, and the debacle against Lecce is a black eye, but being in contention for fourth place until the last matchday isn’t nothing. They’ll have to bring in somebody with a much higher profile to legitimize the decision. A reunion would be that, but there are reasons why retreads get a bad rep.

Torino

Torino had apparently decided to dismiss Paolo Vanoli, but then had second thoughts. A recent summit between him and the owner mended fences at least partially, TuttoSport informs. The decision isn’t final yet. It’s harsh to pin their underwhelming finish on him since they were never close to a European berth, which is a tall order if even Milan miss out, leading to a severe lack of motivation. They would be borderline delusional if they thought a coaching change, even if they totally nail it, would suffice to elevate them.

Verona and Parma

Verona had a satisfying campaign but could shake things up since they had an ownership change not too long ago and could shake up the whole management, which would eventually bring in their guy. Paolo Zanetti would be in high demand if that happened. He smoothed out his bold style to adapt it to the relegation struggle with good results. Parma need to come to terms with Christian Chivu, who had inked a short-term contract when he took over. He’s more likely to stay than to leave, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. He downplayed Ajax’s interest in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

The Other Serie A Minnows

Everything has been quiet around Patrick Vieira so far, who’s been very solid at Genoa, Davide Nicola, as Cagliari landed the plane without sweating too much, and Marco Giampaolo, as Lecce escaped at the last moment. Surprises can’t be excluded since Serie A is a copycat league and every team but those that are 100 percent satisfied with their coach seems eager to make a change. The Frenchman might be the fallback plan for bigger sides.

Instead, in an abundance of self-awareness, Filippo Inzaghi is leaning toward leaving Pisa after the promotion to go back to Serie B, where he’s an ace, Quotidiano Sportivo relays. His stint at Benevento a few years back didn’t go well and left a sour taste in his mouth. He’s in a better-equipped outfit now, and he has amply deserved another shot in the top flight.

Follow us on Google News for more updates on Serie A and Italian football

Source link

Two of the biggest pieces of the puzzle have been sorted, but there’s a long way to go to complete the whole domino of Serie A benches.
