Bournemouth beat AC Milan 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday 22 October, on the third matchday of the Europa League league stage. Milan played more than an hour with ten men after Maignan was sent off for violent conduct in the 27th minute.
Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier both scored from the spot before the break. Amine Adli added the third six minutes from time.
Kluivert and Tavernier convert from the spot
The opening goal came early. In the sixth minute a VAR check confirmed a penalty for Evanilson, and Kluivert converted it two minutes later.
The game then turned against Milan before the half-hour mark. Diakité was booked for a foul in the 16th minute, but it was Maignan’s straight red card in the 27th that changed the contest. Tyler Adams was shown a yellow card for arguing two minutes later.
Bournemouth were awarded a second penalty soon after, and Tavernier scored it in the 32nd minute. Estupiñán was booked for a foul three minutes later, and Rose’s side went in at half-time two goals up.
Adli seals it off the bench
Milan’s discipline remained a problem after the restart. Tomori was cautioned in the 63rd minute and De Winter in the 81st, leaving Amorim’s side with three yellow cards to go with the red.
Adli settled the result in the 84th minute. He played only 13 minutes, had a single shot and scored with it.
The numbers point the same way as the scoreline. Bournemouth had 64% of the ball, completed 454 accurate passes to Milan’s 226 and took 20 shots to 3. Seven of those shots were on target, forcing Milan into 4 saves. Milan did not test Di Gregorio once.
Expected goals finished at 3.18 to 0.17. António Silva was rated 7.69, the highest on the pitch, ahead of Christie on 7.45, who had 4 shots.
Milan’s four-match unbeaten run ends
The defeat halts a good spell for Milan. They had won three and drawn one of their previous four matches, beating Lecce 3-0, drawing 1-1 with Sassuolo, beating Red Bull Salzburg 4-0 and winning 3-2 against Atalanta. Their last loss before this one was a 2-0 defeat by Benfica.
Bournemouth have now won three in a row in all competitions, all without conceding. They beat Sturm Graz 3-0 and Sunderland 2-0 before this result. That followed a 5-1 loss to Chelsea and a 1-0 defeat by Liverpool.
There is little time to recover. Milan travel to Udinese in Serie A on Sunday 25 October, while Bournemouth visit Manchester United in the Premier League on the same day.
