Lazio scored with every one of their three shots on target in Turin on Sunday evening. Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen and substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru were on the scoresheet as Gattuso’s side kept a clean sheet against Spalletti’s Juventus in round 7 of Serie A.
The home side had 58% of the ball and completed 437 passes to Lazio’s 308. They finished with nothing to show for it. Juventus also edged expected goals, 0.79 to 0.59, yet managed only 2 efforts on target all night.
Provstgaard opens the scoring before the break
The breakthrough arrived in the 37th minute, when Provstgaard converted from a Mattia Zaccagni assist. It was the first of a strong individual evening for Provstgaard, who was rated 8.53, the highest on the pitch, after attempting 2 shots across the full 90 minutes.
Lazio picked up both of the game’s bookings. Kenneth Taylor was cautioned for time wasting in the 41st minute, and Zaccagni went into the book for a foul three minutes after the restart. Juventus were not shown a card.
Isaksen and Dele-Bashiru put the game beyond Juventus
Isaksen doubled the lead in the 66th minute, finishing after Nuno Tavares had set him up. He had 3 shots before being withdrawn after 79 minutes.
The third came a minute from time. Andrea Pinamonti provided the assist and Dele-Bashiru, on the pitch for 21 minutes, scored. Behind them, Josip Šutalo (7.57) and Floriani Mussolini (7.12) completed a night in which Lazio’s defenders filled three of the top five match ratings.
Juventus were caught offside 6 times, against 1 for the visitors. Their goalkeeper Vicario did not make a single save.
Lazio level with Inter on 19 points
The result takes Lazio to 19 points from 7 games, the same total as Inter, who stay first on goal difference, 12 against 10. Roma are third on 17. Gattuso’s side are unbeaten in the league with six wins and a draw, and have not lost in six matches in all competitions.
Lazio are also unbeaten in four meetings with Juventus since a 1-0 defeat in Turin in October 2024. The previous visit to the Allianz Stadium, in February, finished 2-2.
Juventus are eighth with 11 points, 8 behind the top two. They have won one of their last four games in all competitions, losing to Cremonese and drawing with Cagliari before beating Celta Vigo 2-1.
Spalletti’s team return to Europa League action at home to Rennes on Thursday 22 October. Lazio host Parma in Serie A on Saturday 24 October.
