Lazio beat Monza 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday to move level on points with Serie A leaders Inter after six rounds. Gennaro Gattuso’s side led 2-0 at half-time and faced ten men from the 35th minute.

Noslin sets up Tavares and Isaksen

The hosts needed just 3 minutes to go ahead. Tijjani Noslin found Nuno Tavares, who opened the scoring. Noslin was involved again in the 23rd minute, this time providing the assist for Gustav Isaksen to double the lead.

Noslin finished with 2 assists and 3 key passes in his 75 minutes, rated 8.08, the highest on the pitch. Isaksen, rated 7.56, had 4 shots in a full 90 minutes.

Monza’s afternoon got worse in the 35th minute. Lorenzo Lucchesi was sent off, leaving Ivan Juric’s team a man short for close to an hour. Andrea Carboni had already been booked in the 13th minute.

Goglichidze strikes, Mandas holds firm

Monza responded straight after the restart. Saba Goglichidze scored in the 46th minute from a Dany Mota assist, and Mota, playing only the second half, went on to have 5 shots of his own.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the visitors carried a real threat. They finished with 1.91 expected goals to Lazio’s 1.59 and took 10 shots from inside the box, two more than the hosts. Lazio goalkeeper C. Mandas made 5 saves and earned a rating of 7.89.

Lazio dominated the ball with 66% possession and completed 516 passes to Monza’s 224. Tempers frayed as the game went on. Danilho Doekhi, Oliver Provstgaard and Diogo Leite were all booked for fouls, and Juric himself was shown a yellow card for dissent in the 79th minute.

The points were secured in the 88th minute. Andrea Pinamonti, who did not start, converted an Alfonso Pedraza assist to make it 3-1.

Six unbeaten as Juventus trip looms

Lazio now have 16 points from 5 wins and a draw, the same as Inter. A goal difference of 7 against Inter’s 10 keeps them second, with AS Roma two points back in third. Counting all competitions, Gattuso’s side are unbeaten in six matches.

The win also stretches Lazio’s run against Monza. They have not lost to them in their last six meetings, including a 5-1 home victory in February 2025.

Monza remain 16th on 4 points, level with Parma and Fiorentina. They have won once in six matches across all competitions. Gustavo Varela, joint second in the scoring charts with 4 goals, could not add to his tally.

Lazio travel to face Juventus on Sunday 18 October. Monza host fourth-placed Cagliari a day later, on Monday 19 October.
