Real Madrid teenager Franco Mastantuono looks set to continue his career in Serie A after an unimpressive first season at the Santiago Bernabeu. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentine’s move to Italy’s top flight feels inevitable at this point, with Jose Mourinho open to letting the youngster leave on a season-long loan.
Mastantuono joined Real Madrid from River Plate last summer for a reported fee of €45 million. Indeed, Los Merengues triggered his buyout clause to beat stiff competition from Juventus, Milan, and several other top European clubs.
However, the 18-year-old struggled for regular first-team football in his first season in Madrid, making just 11 La Liga starts. Overall, he accumulated 35 appearances across all competitions, netting three goals and providing an assist.
