New Milan boss Ruben Amorim needs reinforcements amid preparations for his first campaign in Serie A.
While he fielded his beloved 3-4-2-1 formation against Celtic is the Rossoneri’s first friendly of pre-season, a 2–2 draw indicates there’s a long way to go before the team even project confidence ahead of next season.
Midfield remains a key area of concern, especially given Amorim’s tactical preferences. To that end, there’s one veteran operator Amorim is keen to bring to San Siro.
As reported by Calciomercato, Amorim is keen on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Valued by Transfermarkt at €15 million. The 30-year-old Dane has been one of Ligue 1’s most reliable deep-lying midfielder since moving to Marseille from Spurs two summers ago.
Before Milan can make a move for him, though, they need to make some sales in the middle of the park. Samuele Ricci and Youssouf Fofana are players heavily linked with an exit from the club.
Højbjerg’s contract at Marseille, fetching him a gross annual salary of €6.36 million per year, is set to run until June 2028.
A safe bet
Højbjerg has experience and form on his side going into the new season. Given his market valuation, he’d make for a safe bet for Amorim’s setup at Milan.
Even before his stint at OM, Højbjerg has been widely regarded as a player who can be relied upon for consistent performances deep in midfield. His intensity and engine would further help Amorim sustain performances with his tactical setup.
Milan may need to sell midfielders before they can go for him, but if they can make a move happen here, they absolutely should go for it.
