Emil Holm is reportedly the subject of talks between Juventus and Bologna ahead of the January transfer window’s deadline day.

Juventus have been searching for a new right-back option and are moving towards a deal that could be completed quickly.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the plan on the table is a swap deal involving Joao Mario, with discussions advanced between the clubs.

Bologna are said to be interested in Mario, while Juventus believe Holm fits the profile they want for the role.

Emil Holm: Juventus pushing to sign ‘the new Stephan Lichtsteiner’

Emil Holm and Joao Mario could swap clubs in the coming days, with Juventus and Bologna pondering an exchange of loans.

Fabrizio Romano reports Juventus are “progressing” in negotiations, with Holm viewed as a new right-back option and Mario the makeweight.

Juventus have been looking for more reliability on the right, especially with the season entering a demanding stretch in Serie A and Europe.

Holm has impressed in Italy thanks to his high energy, overlapping runs, and the stamina needed to maraud up and down the line.

There have been comparisons to former Juventus star Stephan Lichtsteiner, an instrumental player for the Bianconeri in the 2010s.

Italian journalist Alvise Cagnazzo sung Holm’s praises in the Daily Mail back in 2022.

“Emil Holm is a Swedish footballer who could become one of the most precious players in Serie A,” he began.

Gagnazzo described Holm as a “right-back box-to-box player who can conquer a place at one of Italy’s top clubs.

“His physical strength and his ability to grind out between 10 and 12km in each match recalls the characteristics of Stephan Lichtsteiner.”

There has also been speculation between Holm and Napoli in recent days.

Meanwhile, Juve have also been linked with Brooke Norton-Cuffy, though Inter are now pursuing him.

Why Juventus are happy to offload Joao Mario

Joao Mario has been struggling for playing time at Juventus and has failed to make much of an impact.

The Portuguese has 373 minutes of football in Turin in 2025-26. And only 46 of these have come under Luciano Spalletti.

Mario also has no goals and just one assist to his name from 13 outings in all competitions.

With that in mind, a move to Bologna would see Mario get more playing time. He would get the chance to rekindle his career in Serie A.
