Inter Milan came from two goals down to beat relegation-threatened Pisa 6-2 at the San Siro on matchday 22.

Goals from Piotr Zielinski, Lautaro Martinez, Pio Esposito, Federico Dimarco, Ange-Yoan Bonny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan wiped out Stefano Moreo’s brace for the visitors.

The comeback win means Inter are now six points clear of arch-rivals AC Milan at the top of Serie A. Despite the early scare, the Nerazzurri proved their Scudetto credentials in scintillating fashion.

Lautaro Martinez Stars As Inter Milan Beat Pisa

After Lautaro Martinez’s disappointing Arsenal performance in midweek – whereby a small number of supporters called for his sale – Martinez reminded the San Siro faithful of his credentials against Pisa.

Martinez’s bullet header leveled the match at 2-2 with 41 minutes on the clock. Inter Milan took the lead when Gunners target Pio Esposito netted in first-half injury time – capping off a topsy-turvy opening at the San Siro.

Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski’s penalty paved the way for the comeback win after Stefano Moreo scored twice to stun Nerazzurri supporters.

His first came after a poor Yann Sommer pass was expertly lofted home by the 32-year-old. Moreo netted his second when he headed home from a Matteo Tramoni corner after 23 minutes.

In the second period, the goals started to dry up. However, Federico Dimarco, Ange-Yoan Bonny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all netted in the final eight minutes to put the gloss on what turned out to be a fine win.

From Martinez’s perspective, the Argentine superstar can hold his head high after his lackluster performance against the English Premier League leaders last time out.

Inter Milan’s Attention Turn To Crunch Borussia Dortmund Champions League Clash

After hitting Pisa for six, Inter Milan can now focus on the matchday 8 Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Head coach Cristian Chivu rotated his starting XI slightly with the game in Germany in mind. Pio Esposito started ahead of Marcus Thuram whereas Federico Dimarco was benched in place of Luis Henrique.

Besiktas target Henrique was actually hooked after 34 minutes for Dimarco having struggled to make an impact against the relegation battlers. Carlos Augusto and Lautaro Martinez were also brought off towards the end.

As far as Wednesday’s clash against Dortmund goes, a victory gives Inter a chance of automatic qualification. BVB knows a win gives them a slim chance of progression.

However, the likelihood is both sides will enter the playoffs. Until then, the Nerazzurri can enjoy their lead at the top of Serie A table. AC Milan can reduce the gap to three points but face a tricky away fixture at Roma on Sunday.
