Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been trending on X amid some big transfer news involving the English club.

The world’s best goalkeeper joined Manchester City in the summer and has been a constant presence in between the sticks.

Donnarumma’s efforts have helped Pep Guardiola’s side to second in the Premier League table, six points behind Arsenal.

Now, Manchester City have reportedly struck a huge deal which has led to fans mentioning Donnarumma in a transfer context.

Hugo Viana delivers big Manchester City transfer news as Marc Guehi deal struck

Numerous sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have reported that Manchester City have struck a deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

The Italian journalist took to X to claim Palace have agreed a £20m (€25m) deal with City for the England international defender.

This means Hugo Viana has now signed another high-profile player for a fee which would be considered pocket change in the Premier League.

Gianluigi Donnarumma joined for £30.3m (€35m), while Rayan Cherki arrived for £34m (€40m), meaning all three have joined for around €100m.

One fan wrote on X: “Guehi + Cherki + Donnarumma + Reijnders is equivalent to Isak signing for Liverpool btw.”

Another said: “If it goes through we’ll have signed Donnarumma, Cherki and Guehi for £6m less than one Harry Maguire.”

And another noted how Donnarumma and Cherki cost similar to what Arsenal paid for Noni Madueke.

How Marc Guehi can help Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of huge 2026 for Italy

Marc Guehi’s game is built on control and decision-making. He stays calm, reads danger early and rarely looks rushed, even when defending his box under pressure.

His one-on-one work is another strength. He shows amazing timing when blocking shots and crosses close to goal, making himself big and protecting the line.

More blocks and fewer clear sights of goal usually mean more clean sheets. In turn, this leads to increased confidence for defenders and goalkeepers alike.

Guehi could make Donnarumma’s job simpler. More clean sheets and wins would also lift his confidence as Italy move towards the March internationals.

The stakes are high, with the World Cup playoffs on the horizon. Any small advantage that reduces pressure on Donnarumma will be a welcome boost.

Man City have had wobbles this season, but they’re still very much in the picture. Six points at the top can be overcome in just a few matchdays.
