Atalanta are reportedly stepping up efforts to sign Hellas Verona forward Giovane ahead of the likes of Inter, Lazio and Roma.
Italian reports suggest La Dea are now the Italian club with the most concrete interest in the Brazilian forward.
Giovane has emerged as one of Serie A’s standout surprise performers this season, with three goals and four assists so far.
This has led to various Italian clubs circling around the 22-year-old during the January transfer window.
Atalanta working to move to front of Giovane queue
According to Sky Italia, Atalanta could now ‘close in’ on Giovane, with news ‘expected in the next hours’.
The report tips La Dea to be ‘the first to jump on the bandwagon’ ahead of their Serie A rivals.
Meanwhile, La Repubblica reported Atalanta have put forward an offer worth around €20m, as they attempt to take control of negotiations.
As well as Inter, capital duo Lazio and Roma want Giovane too, but the strongest interest is now coming from Bergamo.
Atalanta’s advantage could be their relationship with Verona, strengthened by sporting director Tony D’Amico’s past work with the Gialloblu.

Busy January for Atalanta
Several outgoings are on the cards for Atalanta, which will give them more leeway when it comes to incomings.
Marco Brescianini will leave Atalanta soon, according to reports, with Fiorentina having reportedly struck a deal.
Genoa and Cagliari wanted Brescianini too, but it looks as though the Viola have won the race for his services.
Daniel Maldini could also depart Atalanta this month, with Lazio among the sides who want to snap him up.
Lazar Samardzic’s future in Bergamo is also uncertain, amid links with Juventus.
Ademola Lookman is shining for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, and he could be in line for a hero’s welcome at Atalanta in the coming weeks.
The striker has registered three goals and four assists for the Super Eagles, helping them to the quarter-finals of the competition.
