Napoli have turned their attention to Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher as Manchester United remain unsure over Kobbie Mainoo’s future.

Napoli Prepare Conor Gallagher Bid

Antonio Conte has stepped up his pursuit for a new midfielder in January and the Italian has highlighted Conor Gallagher after the Englishman’s recent struggles in Spain.

Napoli’s midfield roster has been ripped to shreds in recent weeks, with Frank Anguissa, Kevin De Bruyne and Billy Gilmour all facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

The Partenopei have managed to perform without their star men, winning the Supercoppa Italiana after beating AC Milan and Bologna in Saudi Arabia.

Despite this injury crisis, Napoli are just two-points behind table-toppers Inter Milan and Italian soccer icon Fabio Capello was full of praise for the Partenopei in his Scudetto prediction.

Although Napoli have managed to maintain consistency without the likes of De Bruyne, Conte is still keen on bringing in some reinforcements in 2026.

Conor Gallagher has been selected as an interesting option for Napoli after starting just four LaLiga matches this season and falling out-of-favor under Diego Simeone.

The former Chelsea star has been linked with a move back to England, but Gallagher is also open to a move outside of the United Kingdom.

Gallagher still has four-years remaining on his deal in Spain, but the Brit will still be far cheaper than Napoli’s other midfield target – Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United Question Kobbie Mainoo Sale

Kobbie Mainoo has endured a difficult spell in Manchester during the 2025/26 campaign, failing to start a single Premier League match and struggling to win over Ruben Amorim.

The English midfielder was thrown into further controversy after his brother was seen wearing a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ shirt during United’s 4-4 stalemate with Bournemouth.

Napoli have been heavily linked with the young midfielder and were close to bringing Mainoo in on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window.

According to reports, Mainoo is keen on completing a move to Naples and becoming the next Englishman to find form on Italian soil.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is just one example of an English international succeeding in Serie A, although AC Milan are willing to sell the Brit – after setting an intriguing asking price for Loftus-Cheek ahead of the January window.

However, Manchester United are not 100% certain about selling Mainoo in January after Bruno Fernandes’ injury and Napoli may put all of their attention into a deal for Conor Gallagher.
