Inter have announced that Ange-Yoan Bonny is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in training.

Inter striker Ange-Yoan Bonny could miss around three weeks due to knee injury

The Nerazzurri striker suffered the issue during Monday’s training session.

Bonny subsequently underwent tests on Tuesday to determine the exact extent of the problem.

Inter confirmed that the 22-year-old has suffered a minor knee sprain and would need assessing in a week’s time.

“Following an injury in yesterday’s training session, Ange-Yoan Bonny underwent medical examinations this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano,” Inter said in a statement.

“The tests revealed a minor sprain in his left knee. His condition will be reassessed next week.”

Sky Sport Italia subsequently reported that Bonny will likely be sidelined for at least 15 days.

‘He will certainly miss the trip to Bergamo (Atalanta) and the matches against Bologna and Parma,’ they speculated.

They then claimed Inter boss Cristian Chivu will hope to have Bonny available between January 11 and January 14.

‘Chivu hopes to have him available between the Napoli game and his recovery match against Lecce,’ added the report.

How Bonny has fared for Inter so far this season

Bonny joined Inter from Parma in July on a five-year contract for a reported €20million.

The France Under-21 international has enjoyed a bright start to life at San Siro.

Inter have largely used Bonny to inject pace and contest duels late in games, while also trusting him to start in key league fixtures.

His strongest stretch came in October, when he won Serie A’s Rising Star of the Month award after a run of influential performances.

In the league, he provided a decisive early winner away at Roma, a display Inter highlighted for his work-rate as well as his finishing.

He also impressed in the 4-1 win over Cremonese, bagging a hat-trick of assists along with a goal.

Across all competitions this season, Bonny has registered five goals and six assists in 20 appearances.

Although this injury will sadly halt his momentum, it doesn’t seem like it will keep him out for too long.

Elsewhere, Inter are scrambling for answers in the transfer market due to Denzel Dumfries’ ankle injury.

Dumfries could be out for up to three months after undergoing surgery on the issue.
