Lecce have confirmed that midfielder Medon Berisha has suffered a significant thigh injury.

Fears injury could rule Lecce star Medon Berisha out until February

In an official statement, Lecce said an MRI revealed a second-degree lesion of the rectus femoris in his right thigh.

Berisha suffered the injury in Lecce’s 1-0 Serie A win over Pisa on Sunday, which required him to come off on a stretcher.

The Salentini did not provide an exact return date, leaving supporters waiting for further medical updates as the rehab process begins.

Second-degree muscle injuries typically require a cautious approach, because rushing recovery increases the risk of recurrence and longer absence.

Italian outlet SoloLecce reported that Berisha is expected to miss at least four weeks, based on common recovery timelines for similar injuries.

However, Calciomercato claimed that the Albania international could miss 45 days, meaning he wouldn’t be back until February.

Big blow for Lecce as Eusebio Di Francesco drops replacement hint

The news will come as a big blow for Lecce, who are just four points clear of the Serie A relegation zone.

Berisha has become a key player for Eusebio Di Francesco, making 13 top-flight outings under him this season.

The 21-year-old has repaid his manager’s faith with two goals and three assists in Serie A this term.

Di Francesco expressed his disappointment with the news of Berisha’s injury after the Pisa game.

He also hinted that Mohamed Kaba could replace Berisha during his absence.

“I’m disappointed; he was playing well and had become important,” Di Francesco told reporters.

“It’s a serious loss for the quality of our game, but I’m confident that whoever comes in to replace him will do well.

“I’m working towards that; we already saw Kaba perform well today.”

Setback en route to the top

While Berisha’s set-piece delivery has caught the eye, his wider skillset stands out just as much.

He looks like he could develop into a superb all-round midfielder thanks to his vision, playmaking intelligence, and passing skills.

If Berisha’s development continues, he may well attract interest from the elite Italian sides and potentially clubs abroad.

Although Berisha has been unfortunate with this setback, he will hopefully make a quick recovery and get back to working his magic for the Giallorossi.
