Lautaro Martinez Rules Juventus Out Of Serie A Title Race
The Inter Milan star has caused quite the stir across Serie A after revealing his predictions for the Scudetto this season.
Martinez was at the Gazzetta Sports Awards on December 11th, as the Argentinian international picked up the ‘Performance Prize’ for his performances last year.
The Nerazzurri captain registered 17 goals involvements during the 2024/25 campaign (12G +5A) and is on course to beat this tally after contributing to nine in 14 appearances this season (7G +2A).
Despite these strong performances, Martinez has been linked with a move away in 2026 after some difficult moments with Cristian Chivu and Inter have targeted Santiago Castro as a possible replacement.
If this turns out to be Martinez’s final year with the Nerazzurri, then he will be desperate to win the Scudetto – winning the title twice since joining in 2019.
However, Inter’s path to the trophy will not be smooth as a number of teams are in the running this season – but Martinez does not believe 36-time winners Juventus will be among the contenders.
When asked if the Scudetto race is between Inter, AC Milan and Napoli, Martinez said:
“I’ll also include Roma, they have a coach I really like. I want to go all the way in every competition, as we’ve done in recent years. We’re on an extraordinary journey that has brought Inter trophies and happiness. Playing two Champions League finals in three years isn’t a given.”
The Bianconeri have endured a difficult start this season as Igor Tudor was dismissed due to an eight-match winless streak and Luciano Spalletti is still implementing his style.
Juventus currently sit seventh in the table, eight-points off first, while Roma have cemented themselves as strong contenders under Gian Piero Gasperini.
Roma To Strengthen Title Chances In January
The Giallorossi have seen a dip in form during their latest Serie A outings, losing two consecutive matches without scoring a goal – but Gasperini will be pleased with his side’s overall performance.
However, the Roma boss is well-aware that he needs to bring in some reinforcements to maintain their fourth-place league position.
Bringing in a striker is the main priority for Roma after scoring just 15 goals in 14 league matches, with Evan Ferguson failing to live up to expectations.
The Irishman responded to recent criticism from Gasperini with a brace in Roma’s latest Europa League fixture against Celtic, but the Giallorossi are still keen on adding another goal-threat.
Joshua Zirkzee has been heavily linked with a move to the Italian capital after a difficult spell with Manchester United and the Dutchman is open to a move in January.
Alternatively, Roma may consider a move for want-away striker Niclas Fullkrug, as West Ham are keen on offloading the German after a disastrous spell in East London.
