Mohamed Salah is set to be left out of Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League trip to Inter Milan.

Liverpool Make Drastic Mohamed Salah Decision

The superstar delivered an explosive interview after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United at the weekend, accusing the club of using him as a scapegoat and declaring his relationship with manager Arne Slot had broken down.

Salah had been named on the bench for the third consecutive match but was an unused substitute as the reigning Premier League champions conceded a 96th-minute equaliser and settled for a point.

After scoring 250 goals since arriving at Anfield in 2017, the 33-year-old felt like he had been “thrown under the bus” following the Reds’ poor start to the season.

He also admitted he now faces an uncertain future despite signing a new two-year deal in April, mirroring Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract impasse, which has seen negotiations placed on hold until the end of the campaign.

Slot is unlikely to have taken kindly to Salah’s post-match barrage, and now, the decision has reportedly been made to leave him at home while the rest of his team-mates fly out to Milan on Monday night.

Salah did take part in open training, but a report from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins claimed that Slot and the Liverpool board opted to drop him in response to his outburst.

Liverpool have not officially confirmed whether the Egyptian will be involved on Tuesday, though Slot could speak out on the matter during his pre-match press conference at the San Siro on Monday evening.

Wayne Rooney called for Slot to freeze out Salah against Inter and Brighton, believing he is “destroying his legacy” on Merseyside, and the selection bombshell will certainly be well received by the Nerazzurri.

Mohamed Salah’s Record Vs Inter Milan

Salah boasts a good record against Inter over the years, meaning his absence will be keenly felt by both clubs.

He has made seven appearances in total, scoring twice; once for Fiorentina in 2015 and once for Liverpool.

His first strike helped La Viola secure a 1-0 victory, while he also played a decisive role in his current club’s knockout of Inter in the Champions League last-16 in 2021-22 after netting in a 2-0 win at the San Siro.

Inter Milan Team News Update

Cristian Chivu could welcome back right-sided defender Denzel Dumfries, who has made good progress on his recovery from his ankle injury. However, he could first be named on the bench to ease him into the fold.

Matteo Darmian is not ready, while centre-half Tomas Palacios and back-up goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro remain out with a hamstring and scaphoid issue, respectively.

Lautaro Martinez has committed his future to Inter, and he will look to score in a sixth consecutive home Champions League match, with Marcus Thuram expected to dovetail with him up front.
