Jonathan David spared Juventus’ blushes as his injury-time goal earned the Bianconeri a first Champions League win of the season.

Tuesday’s 3-2 victory against Bodo/Glimt means the Serie A giants are now firmly back in playoff contention. In fact, the Old Lady has reignited hopes of claiming a top eight finish which would see them qualify automatically to the knockout stages.

Ole Didrik Blomberg gave the hosts a surprise lead in Norway before Lois Openda and USMNT star Weston McKennie turned the game in the Italians favor.

Sondre Brunstad Fet then equalized from the spot with 87 minutes on the clock. However, David had the last laugh when he tapped home the winner for the two-time European champions – much to the delight of Juve fans.

Juventus Supporters Praise Struggling Striker After Bodo/Glimt Winner

Although Dusan Vlahovic has hinted at a Juventus contract renewal, summer-signing Jonathan David demonstrated he can step up to the mark if the Serbian was to quit Turin.

David has struggled since making the switch from Lille. However, fans were quick to praise the Canadian star after his 91st minute winner in Norway.

When the nut is hard to crack….but you came with your hammer,” one supporter joked on social media platform X.

Another had a more forceful view: “That’s what you get when you actually play him and get him the ball!!!!”

They called him tubby, they called him finished, they called him a baguette merchant.  And he responded with a 90th minute winner with limited game time to keep Juventus in UCL top 8 contention, put some respect on Jonathan David’s name,” exclaimed another user.

Jonathan David you are my hero! So happy that you scored the winner. Keep going tiger, watch all the goals come now,” beamed a keen David admirer.

How Many Goals Has Jonathan David Scored For Juventus?

After swapping Ligue 1 for Serie A in the summer transfer window, Jonathan David has failed to live up to the lofty heights that were expected of him.

His winner in Norway was just the second time he has scored in a Juventus shirt. His first came in the 2-0 league success over Parma in the 2025-25 season opener.

David will be mightily relieved his 14-game barren spell is finally over. Nonetheless, David has been in this situation before and the goals soon arrived.

During his first season at Lille in 2020-21, the Canadian international star went his first 13 games in all competitions without finding the back of the net.

He actually ended up with 18 goal contributions (13G/5A) to his name come the end of the term. That in itself will prove to any David doubters that he can deliver once he gets into his stride.

Will Jonathan David Leave Juventus In January?

Last month, it was rumored that Jonathan David could leave Juventus in January. However, the Bianconeri were quick to quash those murmurs with Bayern Munich and Tottenham reportedly interested.

Granted, David has made a slow start but moving him on with Dusan Vlahovic’s future also undecided would be extremely risky from head coach Luciano Spalletti.

Even the player himself previously admitted he wasn’t considering leaving – something of which was confirmed by Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano.

As far as I know, Juventus have not decided to sell David in January,” Romano said.

A summer exit is a possibility but there is quite literally no chance of David leaving in January. Especially as he is back among the goals with the supporters very much on his side.
