Promise David has been a revelation for Union Saint-Gilloise since signing in 2024 and the Canadian has now attracted interest from Serie A.

Who Is Promise David?

Promise David has enjoyed a strong spell with the Jupiler Pro League champions since arriving from Kalju FC for €600,000 and is now pushing for a move to Europe’s top five leagues.

During his debut season in Belgium, David contributed to 29 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions (24G + 5A) and eight of these goals came in USG’s 10 crucial play-off fixtures to clinch the title.

The 24-year-old also picked up his first cap for the Canadian national team in June 2025 and marked his debut with a goal during a 4-1 win over Ukraine.

David’s performances have come at the perfect time as the USG striker will be in contention to lead the line for Canada at the 2026 World Cup – battling Juventus star, Jonathan David.

Despite sharing the same surname, Jonathan and Promise David share no relation, but are both renowned for their prolific nature in front of goal – although Jonathan has struggled at Juventus so far.

The Bianconeri star has scored just one league goal in seven appearances and David’s performances have been symbolic of Juventus’ poor display as Igor Tudor is close to becoming the next Serie A manager to be sacked.

On the other hand, putting in poor performances is not something that has troubled Promise David, as the Union Saint Gilloise striker has scored four league goals in six league starts this season.

Despite only a brief spell with Union SG, David has already picked-up two trophies, winning the Jupiler Pro League title and Belgian Super Cup in 2024/25.

Winning silverware and contributing to 34 goals in 55 appearances has made David a hot property in Europe and the Canadian could be heading to Europe’s elite this summer.

Which Serie A Sides Should Sign Promise David?

Roma

Roma have become one of the most impenetrable teams in Serie A under Gian Piero Gasperini, as the Giallorossi have conceded just three goals in Italy’s top division.

However, Gasperini’s side have struggled to be as formidable in the attacking area of the pitch, scoring just eight-goals in seven league matches and failing to score more than two goals in a singular match.

This lack of ruthlessness in front of goal will be a major concern for Gasperini and the Italian manager could be on the hunt for a new talisman in 2026.

The Giallorossi currently sit second in Serie A, but this level of performance has not transferred to their display in the Europa Conference League – as Roma are currently one of the worst performing Italian teams in European competition.

After a 2-1 win away to Nice on MD1, Roma have suffered consecutive defeats at home in the competition, losing to both Lille and Viktoria Plzen.

Paulo Dybala recently returned from a long-term injury, scoring in his last two appearances and Roma could be on the hunt for another talisman to decrease the reliance on the Argentine’s shoulders.

Lazio

Another option for Promise David is Roma’s fierce rivals, Lazio, as Maurizio Sarri’s side will be able to bring in some fresh faces during the January window after their transfer ban comes to an end.

The Laziali were handed a transfer embargo after failing to adhere to financial parameters in Serie A, meaning Sarri was unable to strengthen during the summer window.

This appeared to be a major hindrance to the Laziali manager during the opening stages of the season and Sarri was predicted to be the next manager from Serie A to be sacked.

However, the Rome-based side have managed to turn things around slightly and picked up a huge win in their latest league clash, beating Juventus 1-0 at home.

Matteo Cancellieri is the clubs’ leading scorer in Serie A so far and the young Italian has only score three goals, meaning Sarri will be searching for a talisman in 2026.

Promise David could be a shrewd piece of business, as the Canadian has four-years on his current deal in Belgium but Union Saint-Gilloise only signed the youngster for €600,000 – meaning he could be available for under €5 million.
