Bruno Fernandes has caught the attention of multiple Inter Milan, after threatening to leave Manchester United if the Red Devils do not qualify for the Champions League.

Will Bruno Fernandes Leave Manchester United?

The Manchester United captain has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after the Red Devils received a monstrous bid from Al Hilal during the summer window.

However, the Portuguese midfielder has reportedly shut down any chance of a move to the Saudi Pro League – but has made his stance clear to the Manchester United board.

If the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, then Fernandes will consider a move away from Old Trafford in the 2026 summer window.

Earning a spot in the Premier League top four could be a tall order for the Red Devils, as Manchester United have picked up just three league wins so far.

Ruben Amorim has been heavily criticized for his sides’ performances this season and the Portuguese coach could be forced out of Old Trafford at any moment.

Fernandes’ current midfield partner Casemiro has also been linked with a move next summer and Amorim has been scrutinized for his decision to pair the two.

Losing their club captain would be yet another stain on Amorim’s tenure in Manchester, after initially losing the support of fans for his handling of academy graduate, Kobbie Mainoo.

The English youngster could push for a move away in January and losing Bruno Fernandes in the following window would be a heavy blow to the Red Devils.

Fernandes has made 298 appearances for the Red Devils since signing in January 2020, winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, while contributing to 186 goals (100G + 86A).

Such a high output means he has become one of the best midfielders in Europe and if United do not qualify for the Champions then Fernandes could be on his way to Inter Milan.

Could Inter Milan Sign Bruno Fernandes?

Bruno Fernandes has history in the nation of Italy, as the Portuguese international signed for Novara in August 2012, before joining Udinese in July the following year.

After three-years in Udine, Fernandes went on to sign for Sampdoria, going on to accumulate 119 appearances in Serie A before signing for Sporting Lisbon.

Obviously, the player that Fernandes has become is vastly different to the youngster that competed in Italy’s top division all those years ago and Inter Milan are reportedly keen on signing the 31-year-old.

Cristian Chivu’s side have made a steady start to the 2025/26 season, sitting fourth in Serie A and winning both of their Champions League matches so far.

The Nerazzurri are in the midst of some important contract decisions, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be out of contract in June 2026 and Bruno Fernandes could be an ideal replacement.

Chivu’s system with three midfielders could be an ideal setting for the Manchester United captain, as it would allow the Portuguese star to impact both sides of the game.

There has been no direct contact between the club or player, however, Fernandes’ deal in Manchester does not expire until June 2027 meaning Inter would need to submit a substantial bid.
