Inter entered the 2025/26 season with one ambition – winning Serie A. But the Nerazzurri have failed to hit the ground running under Cristian Chivu so far.

The Nerazzurri kicked-off the season with a 5-0 win over Torino, which appeared to send warning sounds around Italy, but this level of performance was short-lived as Inter suffered consecutive league defeats to Udinese and Juventus.

Suffering a 4-3 defeat to Juventus could be significant towards the end of the season as both sides are pushing for another Scudetto, but face a huge task in pushing Napoli off the throne.

Chivu’s men have started to turn a corner after the two league defeats, beating Ajax in their first Champions League clash of the season and edging out a 2-1 win over Sassuolo on September 21st.

Although the Inter boss will be focusing on the upcoming clash against Cagliari, the build-up has been slightly overshadowed by the transfer rumors around Federico Dimarco.

The Italian has started in three of the four Serie A matches so far, but is reportedly prepared to move away from the San Siro and Dimarco may join Manchester United in January.

Cagliari will not be focusing on the transfer news in Milan, as Fabio Pisacane looks to build on a strong start to the 2025/26 season – winning their last three across all competitions.

So far, Cagliari have suffered one defeat and that came against current champions Napoli on August 30th, which has been followed up with wins over Parma and Lecce in Serie A.

Pisacane’s side were in Coppa Italia last time out, beating Frosinone 4-1 thanks to goals from Gianluca Gaetano, Gennaro Borrelli, Mattia Felici and Nicolo Cavuoti.

Attention will be turned to Serie A as Cagliari can break into the top four with a win over Inter, but Gli Isolani have not beaten the Nerazzurri since March 2019.

The home side have failed to beat Inter from their last 11 meetings, with the Nerazzurri picking up nine wins and the other two ending in stalemates.

Cagliari appear to be a new side this season, with three consecutive wins in all competitions, but failed to live up to expectations against Napoli on August 30th.
