The 2025 Ballon d’Or nominees will see a total of three Serie A stars jostle for soccer’s most prestigious individual accolade.
On September 22, the world’s finest will be present for the ceremony in Theatre du Chatelet, Paris. The event will start at 7pm CEST (1pm ET/10am PT) and will be hosted by Kate Scott and former winner Ruud Gullit.
Alongside the Ballon d’Or award, the victors of the Feminin equivalent, men’s and women’s Kopa Trophy, men and women’s Yashin Trophy and the men and women’s Coach of the Year award will also be determined.
Furthermore, the Team of the Year both both the men and women’s games will also be named. As to will the Gerd Muller Trophy and Socrates Award.

Which Serie A Stars Have Been Nominated For The Ballon d’Or?
After a stunning maiden season in Italy, Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. And his efforts in 2024-25 fully justify his inclusion.
Not only did the Scottish star help the Azzurri to the Scudetto, McTominay was also named as Serie A’s MVP. The 28-year-old scored 13 times in all competitions under the guidance of Antonio Conte.
The other two stars included in the 30-man shortlist are Lautaro Martinez and Denzel Dumfires. The Inter duo helped the Nerazzurri to the 2024-25 Champions League final.
Despite being humbled by PSG 5-0 in Munich, Martinez and Dumfries were hugely pivotal in getting Simone Inzaghi’s side to the finale in May.
The former scored nine times in the UCL whereas Dumfries provided five goal contributions in the epic semi-final clashes against Barcelona. Both players also shined in Italy’s elite soccer division last year.

2025 Ballon d’Or Nominees
The only Italian player to have a 2025 Ballon d’Or nominee is Gianluigi Donnarumma. He was part of the PSG side who won a historic treble which included the Champions League.
Donnarumma kept a clean sheet in the final and also earned another 16 shut outs across 47 appearances in all competitions. The Azzurri captain has since moved to Manchester City.
He is certainly no stranger to winning individual accolades. Donnarumma was the recipient of the 2021 Yashin Trophy and has also been named as the Serie A goalkeeper of the Year on two occasions.
For his efforts in Paris during the 2024-25 campaign, Donnarumma was named in the Champions League Team of the Season.

Has Antonio Conte Been Nominated For The Cruyff Trophy?
On August 7, it was announced that Napoli head coach Antonio Conte had been nominated for the 2025 Team Coach of the Year Trophy. Commonly referred to as the Cruyff Trophy.
Similar to Scott McTominay, Conte shined in Naples during his maiden campaign. He led the Azzurri to the Serie A title on the last day of the season.
The maverick manager was also named as the Serie A Coach of the Month on two occasions. He also won the Serie A Most Valuable Coach for 2024-25.
Conte will go up against four other contenders. They are Liverpool’s Arne Slot, Barcelona’s Hansi Flick, fellow Italian Enzo Maresca (Chelsea) and Luis Enrique of PSG.
