Cesc Fabregas is willing to make some major changes to his lineup after a poor start to the Serie A season, as Como face Fiorentina at Stadio Artemio Franchi on September 21st.

Como vs Fiorentina Preview

Como 1907 have not made the start that supporters were expecting after a monumental transfer window, as Cesc Fabregas’ side have picked up just four points from their opening three Serie A matches.

The Serie A side brought in a staggering 16 players, signing: Jesus Rodriguez, Nicolas Kühn, Martin Baturina, Jayden Addai, Maximo Perrone, Alex Valle, Ignace Van der Brempt, Diego Carlos, Jacobo Ramón, Luca Mazzitelli, Fellipe Jack, Stefan Posch, Nikola Cavlina, Noel Törnqvist, Alvaro Morata and Henrique Menke.

After a 2-0 win at home to Lazio, Como showed signs of a team that would be pushing for European football this season, with Nico Paz putting in a stellar performance at home.

The Argentine has impressed so much that rumors of a return to Spain have started to circulate, as Real Madrid can exercise their buy-back clause next summer.

However, this momentum has already started to drift for Como, losing 1-0 away to Bologna on Matchday Two, before being held to a 1-1 stalemate by Genoa most recently.

Nico Paz was once again on the scoresheet for Cesc Fabregas’ side, but Jacobo Ramon’s red card in the 88th minute allowed Genoa to gain control and Caleb Ekuban scored a 92nd minute equalizer.

When looking into Como’s upcoming opponents, it’s very much a similar story as Fiorentina have struggled to find their feet in Serie A so far – remaining winless after three matches.

Stefano Pioli’s side did find success in the Europa Conference League qualifying stage, beating Polissya across two-legs to secure a place in Europe for the 2025/26 season.

But performances in Italy’s top division have left much to be desired, drawing to both Cagliari and Torino, before suffering a 3-1 defeat to Serie A champions, Napoli.

The Florence-based side currently sit 16th in Serie A, just a point above the relegation places and in desperate need of three-points against Como on September 21st.

Pioli will need to make some instant changes to his side, as Luciano Spalletti has been linked with a return to Serie A and could push for the Fiorentina job.

Last season, Cesc Fabregas’ side picked up a 2-0 victory in this fixture, with Nico Paz once again popping up with a goal for Como – but Fiorentina did claim all three-points in the reverse fixture.

Interestingly, the 2024/25 season was the first time the two faced off in Serie A, with their previous meetings taking place in Coppa Italia or Serie B.

Overall Como and Fiorentina have gone head-to-head on seven occasions (competitive matches), with Fiorentina picking up four wins and Como reigning victorious thrice.

Como Team News

Cesc Fabregas will be forced into a change to his defensive set-up, as Jacobo Ramon begins his three-match suspension for the red card against Genoa last time out.

Elsewhere the Spanish coach may be looking to make some slight changes in hopes of turning Como’s fortunes around, with the Serie A side scoring just three-goals so far.

The decision between Alvaro Morata and Tasos Douvikas for the striker position will be an interesting option for Fabregas, with both players yet to make a strong impact on the side.

Fabrgeas will not be able to call upon Assane Diao, Alberto Dossena and Ignace Van Der Brempt as the three all continue their recoveries from injury.
