AC Milan suffered a major blow during their 1-0 victory over Genoa, as Mike Maignan was forced off with a calf injury midway through the second-half.

How Long Is Mike Maignan Out For?

The Rossoneri picked up their second win of the season against Bologna on September 14th, as Luka Modric scored his first goal in Milan and secured all-three points for Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

However, this result was slightly overshadowed following an injury in the 55th minute, with Mike Maignan leaving the field due to a reported strain in his right calf.

Pietro Terraccino was called up to replace the French international, as the Italian made his debut for the Rossoneri after signing from Fiorentina during the summer transfer window.

Losing Maignan through injury will add further stress onto Allegri’s roster, as the shot-stopper joins Rafael Leao on the sidelines – but the Portuguese winger is nearing a return after a three week absence.

Alexis Saelemaekers has been filling in for Leao and the Belgian could be extending his deal in Milan, which may show the path to success for Terraccino during Maignan’s absence.

The French shot-stopper has endured a difficult time with injuries since signing for Milan in the 2021 summer transfer window, missing a considerable number of matches.

In 2022/23, the 30-year-old was absent for 157 days, missing 31 matches, before dealing with five separate injuries in 2023/24 and being sidelined for 10 fixtures.

Continuously struggling with injuries has hindered Maignan’s time in Italy and was a huge factor in Milan’s proposed idea of selling the French international during the summer.

What Games Will Mike Maignan Miss Through Injury?

Losing your number-one is a problem for any side and Allegri will be hoping for a speedy recovery as the Rossoneri look to continue their Serie A form.

Milan suffered a 3-2 against Cremonese on the opening day of the season, but managed to put this disappointing result behind them by winning the next two league matches.

Maignan has played a pivotal role in both of these victories, keeping a clean sheet on both occasions and making some huge saves for Allegri’s side.

As we’ve previously mentioned, Maignan was linked with a move away during the summer and Milan are eyeing-up Zion Suzuki as a replacement next season.

However, the 30-year-old is still the number one option for Milan and Allegri revealed that Maignan is unlikely to feature in the clubs’ next league match against Udinese.

Allegri said: “I am pretty sure Maignan won’t be ready against Udinese, because the calf muscle is a delicate area, but Terracciano already made his debut, and we’ve got Torriani too. The important thing is to work as a team, if players are missing, we need this spirit.”

European action will return on the week commencing September 15th, as Juventus, Inter Milan, Atalanta and Napoli begin their Champions League campaigns.

Roma and Bologna will also kick-start their Europa League encounters, while Fiorentina enter the Europa Conference League once again.

Milan did not qualify for Europe last season following a disappointing campaign, meaning Maignan will have a full week to recover and will not miss any mid-week action.
