Denzel Dumfries has announced that he always wanted to ‘stay at Inter’ after a summer of uncertainty.
Dumfries was one of the Nerazzurri’s unsung heroes last season after providing five goal contributions against Barcelona in the Champions League.
The Dutch international scored twice in the semi-final away league and also provided an assist. In the return fixture at the San Siro, Dumfries set up another two goals as the Italians reached the final against PSG.
Denzel Dumfries On Inter Future
After Denzel Dumfries confirmed he was to stay at Inter, the right-back has confirmed it was always his intention to carry on at the San Siro.
“For me, my goal was always clear: to stay at Inter. I’m an Inter player and I know that the club’s thoughts were the same.
“A lot of people have talked about me moving,” Dumfries continued. “But for me there were never any doubts. I’m very happy at Inter. I want to stay here.”

The Denzel Dumfries release clause expired in mid-July. Naturally, there were a host of Europe’s top clubs interested in the Inter defender.
LaLiga champions Barcelona appeared close to luring Dumfries to Spain earlier this summer. The same applied to a whole host of Premier League sides.
Those in question were Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle, both Manchester sides as well as Newcastle. Nonetheless, none of the aforementioned sides met Dumfries release clause.

Although Denzel Dumfries future appears to be decided, the same couldn’t be said about midfield ace Hakan Calhanoglu earlier this window. It even caused a riff with star man Lautaro Martinez.
“I was very calm about that situation. I know that we all worked hard to win. Both Calhanoglu and Lautaro are winners, so they’re very competitive.
“But they straightened things out between themselves. And then they talked to the group.
Dumfries declared that: “We’re the same as before: united and fired up. Last season we were a family. These things can happen.”
“Not winning titles isn’t good enough for Inter. Now we’re working to achieve our goals.”
